Often determining the volume and location of data before migrating is a vital step in the process. Movebot provides detailed reporting around data location, volume, potential errors or issues and timeframes that can be useful in planning out your migration before actually hitting go. This is what we refer to as a Scan or the Calculating Stage.
Movebot's Scan
When configuring a migration or project, you can choose to run a Scan only. This free step maps out your data in the source and checks it for Sanitization and Normalization issues and other common faults before pressing go.
Scans can be run multiple times before actually running the migration and produce a report that shows detailed information on what will be migrated and how.
Potential Issues
As described in Filename Sanitization and Normalization, different Cloud Storage platforms have different limitations and conventions. The Potential Issues report provides insight these issues. A vital part of the preflight scan, this shows what files and directories need attention and how Movebot will automatically mitigate some issues.

Files and Folders and Content Insights
Every file and folder that will be migrated can be found in the Files/Folders view as part of the Scan. This is the perfect place to check that all your content will be included in the migration and understand where data will be migrated too.

The Scan stage is run automatically as the first step in every migration. Internally, Movebot uses the same report and information that is showcased in the web front end to plan and execute your migration.
