Team drives in Google offer a great for organisations to organise and manage data. With this comes some caveats though.
Note: Shared Drives are different to Shared Folders. Shared drives are a Google Workspace feature that allows organisational ownership. Shared folders are folders shared with an external user from My Drive.
Granting Movebot access to the Team Drives
Movebot uses an admin user to access Team drives via the Google Drive APIs. We do not manage permissions on the Team Drive itself and so cannot grant ourselves access to the Team Drive.
Before migrating, make sure the admin user defined has access to the Team Drive, either as a Content Manager or Manager
Enable external sharing
Before starting the migration, ensure external sharing is enabled on the Team Drive. Movebot uses sharing to copy gdocs between Google drives.
Team drives with a '/' forward slash character in the name
Google allows users to configure team drives with forward slash characters in the name. Movebot will confuse this as part of the path, which creates issues. If your team drive has a forward slash character in its filename, we recommend using the "teamdriveid:<drive id>" selector.
